Empowering Future Journalists with Critical Digital Skills
As digital media continues to evolve, the ability to critically evaluate online information has become an essential skill for the next generation of journalists and communications professionals. Pennypop partnered with Drogheda Institute of Further Education (DIFE) to deliver a bespoke Media Literacy training programme designed to equip journalism students with the knowledge and practical tools needed to navigate today’s complex digital landscape.
The workshop focused on helping students recognise misinformation and disinformation, verify online information, understand the ethical responsibilities of digital communication and explore the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence on modern journalism.
The Brief
DIFE engaged Pennypop to design and deliver an interactive Media Literacy workshop for 38 journalism students. The objective was to strengthen participants’ understanding of today’s media environment while developing practical critical thinking skills that could be applied throughout their studies and future careers.
The programme needed to combine theory with practical application, ensuring students left with real-world techniques for evaluating digital content and responsible online communication.
